Fhabián Stevens Carrión-Nessi (M.D.)

Fhabián Stevens Carrión-Nessi (M.D.), is a medical doctor graduated from the Universidad de Oriente – Núcleo Bolívar and a researcher in the Infectious Diseases Department of the Instituto de Investigación Biomédica y Vacunas Terapéuticas (Ciudad Bolívar, Venezuela). He has also performed several certificates on scientific research, including Research Methodology and Statistics Applied to Research (Universidad de Los Andes, Mérida, Venezuela). Fhabián has worked on the description of the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of malaria and COVID-19 in Venezuela, as well as on the impact of bacterial and viral coinfections in pregnant women living with HIV/AIDS.

Together with Dr. David A. Forero-Peña and BSc. Daniela L. Mendoza-Millán, he was awarded the “Best Research Paper of COVID-19” Prize by the Venezuelan Society of Infectious Diseases in 2021.  His current research interests focus on evaluating the impact of gestational malaria on maternal-fetal outcome in southern Venezuela, and describing placental histopathological changes due to P. vivax. He also has a keen interest in the study of immunology and molecular microbiology. Fhabián has published his research in prestigious journals such as Malaria Journal, Frontiers in Public Health, Travel Medicine and Infectious Disease, among others.
